LAG Veej’jakaja ry, Finland

The local action group Veej´jakaja ry is geographically placed in the southwest Savo. The association acts in the regions of Mikkeli and Pieksämäki.

The development programme of Veej´jakaja aims encouraging new entrepreneurial activities in the region together with educating rural inhabitants and increasing their social capital. The development programme for period 2007-2013 is funded from LEADER by The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The foundation of development is in the special local features of economic-geographic location, nature and lakes, traditions, and also in cooperation between the urban and rural regions.

The development programme is divided into following four sub themes:

1. Cooperation (adding knowledge and social capital, quality of living),
2. Developing networking (developing local services, co-operation and cultural environment)
3. New possibilities of Leader (innovation networks and international co-operation)

These themes are realised through projects consisting of needs of local actors.

Haukivuori, Hirvensalmi, Kangasniemi, Mikkeli (rural areas), Mäntyharju, Pieksämäki, Puumala and Ristiina
